GREENE – On a blustery Monday afternoon, the Greene Trojans baseball team hosted Unatego/Franklin for their 2024 home opener. After a battle with Bainbridge-Guilford on Saturday, Greene couldn’t fight back against the Spartans, falling 17-0.

Unatego/Franklin put on a show in the first inning, scoring seven runs that gave them the momentum they needed to carry the lead throughout the game. Greene’s defense reacted well, but the Spartans showed that they were a hot-hitting team from the start. Greene’s Tristan Donnelly had the most assists in center field to take away extra base hits.

Donnelly was also the star for the Trojans offense with the team’s only two hits. He singled to right field his first time up in the third inning, but got caught on trying to get to second base. He singled his last time up in the sixth inning and Carter Williamson walked to put Greene with runners in scoring position, but Unatego/Franklin stayed on top of their game.

Lincoln Youngs, Aiden Carter, Colin Colgan, and Jackson Roth spent time on the mound for the Trojans, where they combined with five strikeouts. Roth got the nod in the sixth inning, where he pitched a clean inning with help from two fly outs to Donnelly and one line out to Parker Flanagan at shortstop.

Greene (0-2) looks to bounce back as they start a four-game road trip against Moravia on Saturday, April 6 at 11 a.m.
