NORWICH — After much anticipation, the City of Norwich will be revealing the winning city flag design on Founders Day, Wednesday, April 17.

After receiving approximately 88 submissions for city flag designs, the City of Norwich Flag Initiative Committee narrowed it down to a final eight designs. Community members were invited to vote on their two favorite designs, and the flag that received the most votes will become the first ever City of Norwich flag.

Deputy City Clerk and City Historian Agnes Eaton said they received approximately 688 electronic votes and 26 ballot votes at City Hall.

At the City of Norwich Joint Committee meeting on Tuesday, April 2, Eaton said the winning design had been determined. Now council members must vote to adopt the design as the official city flag at the common council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, April 16.

If adopted, the design will be revealed to the public the following day.

"We wanted something that meant something, not just something that kind of looked good. But something that represented the community," said Eaton. "The committee did feel the winning design had other meanings besides what the designer intended as well."
