Track and Field: UV hosts MAC Meet, featuring B-G

NEW BERLIN - The Unadilla Valley Storm track and field team welcomed Bainbridge-Guilford, Unatego, and Delhi to their home track on Monday afternoon. UV honored its seniors prior to the opening events. Congratulations, to UV seniors; Nicole Ramsaran, Kalie Fernandez-Naughton, Tucker Cattanach, Jaiden Schrag, Arin Buchanan, Bella Potter, Brandon Davenport, Lilyannah Palmer, and Kiana Hoag. The home team came out with the victory for the girls with B-G in second. Delhi snuck past B-G and UV for first place for the boys.
B-G
Girls:
The Bobcats had solid performances all around for both boys and girls. Eighth grader Keelan Ammon finished second in the girls' 100 meter dash with a time of 14.30 seconds before finishing third in the 400 meter dash with a new best time of 1:06.76. She completed her day in third for pole vault with a mark of five feet, six inches.
Macaela Burns, Aubrey Schinn, Brooklin Hall, and Carly Finch finished sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth in the same 100 meter event. Finch also earned a fourth place finish in the 100 meter hurdles with a new best time of 21.21 seconds. Laila Williams took fourth in the 400 meter dash, followed by Sage Pruskowski in fifth.
Ethne Degan began her senior outdoor season with a first place finish in the 800 meter run with teammate Maddie Ingham right behind her in second. Degan finished second in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:47.85, just short of Delhi's 5:47.44.
Degan, Ingham, Lalaenia Baldwin, and Laila Williams ran the girls 4x400, finishing second to UV and won the girls 4x800.
In the fielding events, Olivia Nichols achieved first place with a jump of four feet, five inches. Teammates Laila Williams and Carly Finch tied for third place with a jump of four feet exactly. Brooklin Hall and Aubrey Schinn both competed in the long jump, where Hall finished second with a jump of 12-10 and Schinn in third 12-5.75. Both are new personal bests. Marissa Mayo earned a new personal best in both the shotput and discus events. Mayo threw 22 feet, six inches in shot put for second place with Olivia Briggs in fourth place (20-5.75). Mayo also took second in the discus with a throw of 72 feet, eight inches. Teammate Alyssa Finch rounded out the day for the girls with a fourth place finish in the discus with a throw of 62-9.
Boys:
Collin Dicks was on top of his game in all events for the Bobcats boys' team. He finished first in the 100 meter dash, in the long jump, and in the triple jump. He nearly broke the school record in the long jump, but missed it by an inch. His jump was 21-1.25 while the record is 21-2.25. Dicks, along with Harpo Hardt, Kevin Lang, and Anthony Graham, led the boys' 4x100 team to a first place finish while Lang, Graham, Brandon Campbell, and Easton Porter took the 4x400 win.
Aside from a speedy Dicks, Kevin Lang finished second in the 100 meter dash with a new best time of 11.50 seconds and also finished second in the 400 meter dash with a new best 54.30 seconds. Easton Porter earned second place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:16.84, just short of Delhi's 2:15.12. Rowan Beasinger finished seventh in the same event while also running to a fifth place finish in the 1600 meter run.
Harpo Hardt finished second out of two competitors in the 400 meter hurdles, falling to UV's Haywood Edwards by about three seconds. Hardt also finished second to teammate Collin Dicks in the triple jump with a new best jump of 38 feet, nine inches.
Elliott Briggs picked up a second place finish in the discus throw before taking third in the shotput. Briggs set a new personal best throw of 96 feet, six inches in the discus. B-G was strong in both throwing events as Aiden Vermilyea took sixth with Osias Mealing in seventh in shot put. Mealing finished fifth in discus followed by Ryan Larsen in sixth and Vermilyea in seventh. Matthew Wombacker took third in pole vault with a mark of seven feet, six inches to round out a strong finish for the Bobcats boys'.
UV:
Girls:
The home team was pumped up with strong performances from its talented ladies. Bella Potter kicked things off with a second place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.33 seconds. She also finished fifth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 30.14 seconds. Gracie Gorrell, coming off a states run from indoor season, fired up with two first place finishes in the 200 meter and 400 meter dashes. Jaiden Schrag continued her senior campaign with a second place finish in the 200 meter dash and won her prominent 100 meter hurdles.
Madison Dix, Natalya Schrag, and Molly Gorrell all took on the 800 meter run together and followed one another as Dix came in third, Schrag in fourth, and Gorrell in fifth. Schrag finished third in the 1500 meter run.
Jaiden Schrag, Kalie Fernandez-Naughton, Bella Potter, and Gracie Gorrell joined forces and won the girls 4x100 while Schrag, Fernandez-Naughton, Dix, and Gorrell won the 4x400. Kalie Fernandez-Naughton achieved first place in the long jump with a jump of 14-5.25 and achieved a new best jump to win the triple jump (31-8.25). Dix finished second in the triple jump with a jump of 29 feet, 11 inches and Noelle Fernandez-Naughton came in fourth with her new best 26-8.50. Senior Kiana Hoag set a new personal best in the shot put with a throw of 20 feet, eight inches for third place as teammate Kora Johnson took third with a new best throw of 63 feet exactly in the discus.
Boys:
Jacob Prentice led the Storm boys with two top finishes in both the 200 meter dash and the 400 meter dash. He set two new personal best times as well. He ran 24.20 seconds in the 200 meter dash while completing the 400 in 53.89 seconds. Haywood Edwards followed Prentice in the 200 meter dash with Denzel Peter in fourth place. Tucker Cattanach finished fourth in the 400 meter dash. Prentice also finished second in pole vault with a mark of eight feet, six inches.
Peter finished sixth in the 100 meter dash with a new best time of 12.41 seconds and joined Haywood Edwards, Jacob Prentice, Tucker Cattanach in the boys 4x100, finishing second to B-G. Edwards earned the top finish in the 400 meter hurdles against Harpo Hardt with a time of 1:04.33. Brodey Cattanach took fifth in the 800 meter run with a new best time of 2:34.38 while also finishing fourth in the triple jump with a new best jump of 29 feet, eight inches. His brother Tucker finished ahead of him with a third place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 35-8.25.
Senior Brandon Davenport wrapped things up for the Storm boys' with an eighth place finish in the shot put event with a new best throw of 27 feet, seven inches.
