Softball: S-E shuts down Clinton

SHERBURNE – After a setback against Herkimer, the Sherburne-Earlville softball team stayed home to take on Clinton. S-E had a great day at the plate and Fisher had an excellent performance on the mound to take a big 12-0 victory.
After two scoreless innings for both teams, S-E got on the board with four runs in the third inning. With two outs to start the inning, Savanna Born walked and would walk a total of three times in the game. Born scored during Emily Lawrence’s at-bat off an error by the defense. Haleigh Fisher drew a two-out walk and Lawrence and Fisher both scored off an error on Emilee Bennett’s at-bat. Chesnee Miller kept the inning going as she was walked and Bennett came around to score on Jeanine Chamberlain’s RBI single.
Fisher struck out the side on the mound before her team picked up another run in the bottom of the fourth off an RBI single by Emily Lawrence. S-E added seven runs in their final at-bat in the bottom of the sixth inning.
There were three walks to start the inning with no outs, where Fisher hit into a fielder’s choice to send in a run before Bennett picked up her second hit with an RBI single to left field. Miller drove in a pair with a double to right field as Chamberlain drove her home with a single. Miller, Chamberlain, and Born all had two RBIs on the day. Born drove in two runs on an infield single that was misplayed by the defense.
Fisher struck out the side to end the game in the seventh. She finished with 19 strikeouts and allowed three base runners with two hits and a walk.
S-E (3-1) heads to Canastota this afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
