MARATHON - The Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats softball team had a late start to the 2024 season, but have proved that they are the team to beat, rolling on a six-game streak. The Bobcats picked up two wins in the Spring Fling Tournament, held in Marathon on Saturday.
B-G defeated both Marathon and Cincinnatus to keep themselves going strong. B-G won the first game against Marathon 11-2 while holding on to a 7-5 victory against Cincinnatus.
In the first game, Kaylin Furgason and Alessandra Cafasso had a good time at the plate. Furgason was one home run away from hitting a cycle with a two-run triple and one-run single in the Bobcats' eight-run third inning, and she also had a double. Both Furgason and Cafasso led B-G with three RBIs in the win.
Brenna George pitched three and two third innings on the mound, giving up one run on two hits, walked one, and struck out five batters. Railey O'dell gave up one run on one hit, walked one, and struck out one in her inning and a third.
In game two, the Bobcats bats slowed down and Cincinnatus fought back in the fourth inning, but B-G held on. B-G held a 2-0 lead through three innings before the Lions answered with a five-run fourth inning to briefly go ahead 5-2. The Lions picked up five unearned runs with two outs. However, B-G added five runs of their own in the top of the fifth inning to regain the lead and secure the 7-5 victory to stay unbeaten.
Gabby Cuozzo led the Bobcats at the plate with two RBIs and on the mound as she allowed the five unearned runs on six hits, two walks, and struck out seven batters.
