Norwich Track competes at Penn Relays and Cahill Classic
CHENANGO COUNTY – The Norwich Purple Tornado track and field team made two appearances over the weekend with some athletes attending the Penn Relays and others competing in the Cahill Classic at Sauquoit Valley, featuring many section III schools.
Norwich took its two boys’ and girls’ 4x 100 relays to the Penn Relays against many international teams. Holden Ryan, Spencer Root, Gabe Decker, and Richard Fuller competed in the boys’ 4x100, where they finished 55 out of 96 schools. Layla Root, Josey Ryan, Brynley Ryan, and Emma Urgo finished 58 out of 79 schools and seventh in their respective heat for the girls. It was a great experience for both teams.
The Norwich girls’ finished 11th in the Cahill Classic as the boys had three athletes help the team finish 22nd.
Girls:
There were many personal records set for the Norwich girls’ team, starting with seventh grader McKenzie Hagenbuch in the 400 meter dash. Hagenbuch set a new best time of 1:08.64 for eighth place as teammate Emilia Pepe came in 16th with her own personal best of 1:13.97. Pepe also finished 15th in the high jump with a new best jump of four feet, two inches.
