Local track teams compete in Oneonta Invitational

ONEONTA – On Friday, all local Chenango County track and field teams competed in the Oneonta Invitational. Oneonta swept both sides of the leaderboards as the Unadilla Valley girls’ team came in sixth, Bainbridge-Guilford in eighth, Norwich in 14th, and Oxford/Greene girls’ in 15th. The Norwich boys’ took third while Oxford/Greene finished sixth, UV in ninth, and B-G in 12th place.

The Unadilla Valley Storm girls’ team continues to shine as the 4x800 team came in first place and there were solid finishes all around. Addison Marinelli, Molly Gorrell, Madison Dix, and Natalya Schrag ran the 4x800 in a top 10:51.34. The girls continue to hold the school record in this event. Dix went on to place third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.67 as Gracie Gorrell won the event in 1:01.22. Molly Gorrell took eighth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:44.81.

Jaiden Schrag was just short of two top finishes in both the 100 meter hurdles and in the long jump. She earned second place in both events. She completed the 100 meter hurdles in 15.97 seconds, behind Cobleskill-Richmondville’s 15.93. Schrag jumped a second place jump of 15 feet, five and 3/4 inches. Kalie Fernandez-Naughton finished seventh in the long jump with a jump of 14-8 and finished 16th in the shot put (25-7.25). Noelle Fernandez-Naughton set a new best time in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:21.72 for ninth place. She also came in 12th place in the triple jump with a jump of 26 feet, one inch.
