OXFORD — Three decades have passed since Bill and Diane Troxell started the store that grew into Gallery Three-Two-One. The Gallery is now a marketplace, housed inside a 100 year old restored barn and filled with handmade art pieces and craft works from over 200 artists across the country.
The Troxell’s daughter, Sarah Smith, and her husband Ron, purchased the business a few years ago, and welcome all to their 30 year anniversary celebration this weekend, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 18 and 19, located at 41 State Street, Oxford.
“My parents opened the Gallery in 1994 and we’re really excited to celebrate our 30th anniversary this weekend,” said Sarah.
“We're going to have snacks and drinks, photos of 30 years of being open, gifts for shoppers and raffles,” she added.
The Gallery consists of exclusively handmade items that are hand selected and features products such as pottery, glass, jewelry, wood, prints, and original art.
“Thirty years in business marks a milestone,” she said. “When we took over the business in 2020, during the pandemic, it wasn't an ideal time. But thanks to the community and our loyal customers, we survived and hope to keep the business and tradition alive.”
Sarah said they’ve been making Strong Stone Pottery in their studio for 50 years, when her dad first started throwing pottery in 1974, in the sub-level of the barn.
“So we’re also celebrating Strong Stone Pottery’s 50th year anniversary,” she said.
Sarah explained her parents started the business by traveling the trade show circuit, selling their pottery up and down the east coast. The time came to do something different and they decided to open the store in 1994, and eventually the barn was expanded to become Gallery Three-Two-One.
“When they retired in 2020, my husband Ron and I took over,” Sarah said.
Not only does Sarah throw pottery and help run the Gallery, she is also a full-time Family and Consumer Sciences teacher at Norwich City School District, and president of Improve Oxford Now.
Her husband Ron runs the show when she's away. He is usually found working on the landscaping, making wooden bowls and keeping up on daily tasks of the store.
Gallery Three-Two-One hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.
