Bainbridge-Guilford boys' and girls' win the 2024 Section IV, Class D track championship

MARATHON – The Section IV, Class D track and field championship was held on Wednesday in Marathon. Bainbridge-Guilford boys' and girls' were victorious and won the sectional title for their respective meets. Unadilla Valley girls' took second as the boys' finished seventh. Afton girls' finished 16th as the boys' came in 13th place.
It was a great all-around showcase for Chenango County athletes who have been working hard all season.
B-G:
Girls:
The Bainbridge-Guilford girls' won the sectional title with 100 team points. The girls' relay teams were strong with a top finish in the 4x800 with a team of Vanessa Brazee, Maddie Ingham, Lalaenia Baldwin, and Ethne Degan.The 4x400 team took second with Ingham, Keelan Ammon, Sage Pruskowski, and Laila Brazee, and the 4x100 team finished seventh.
Just like at the MAC Championship, Ethne Degan collected three individual first place finishes. She came away with the victory in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:14.18 with teammate Vanessa Brazee in 11th place. Degan led the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:52.52 with Lalaenia Baldwin in fourth place. Degan and teammate Maddie Ingham kept pace with each other in the 800 meter run with Degan in first and Ingham in second. Laila Williams took fourth in the 800 meters. Ingham finished fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.55 as Brazee finished 16th. Brazee also finished fifth in the 2000 meter steeplechase as Baldwin finished slightly ahead in fourth place.
Keelan Ammon competed in both the pole vault and 400 meter dash. She finished fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 7-0 and finished sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:05.22. Olivia Hall finished 13th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:23.21 as Brooklinn Hall finished 17th in the triple jump with a jump of 27-2.50. Emily Sprow earned two third place jumps as she jumped four feet, eight inches in the high jump with teammate Olivia Nichols in fifth place (4-6). Sprow jumped 15-10.75 in the long jump for third place as Aubrey Schinn finished 14th (13-7.75).
Marissa Mayo and Tori Suda competed in the throwing events. Mayo finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 83 feet, four inches. Suda finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 29-1.75 as Mayo took ninth with a throw of 26 feet, five inches.
Boys:
The Bainbridge-Guilford boys' claimed the sectional title with a combined 80 team points. Like the girls', the Bobcats boys' team had great relay performances. A team of Kevin Lang, Julian Pruskowski, Easton Porter, and Brock Porter took second place in the 4x400, finishing with a time of 3:41.86 behind Groton's 3:39.33. B-G's 4x800 team came in fourth while the 4x100 took sixth place.
Senior Collin Dicks was triumphant in two of his four main events. Dicks won both the 200 meter dash and long jump events. He won the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.37 seconds with Lang behind him in second place (23.59). Dicks won the long jump with a top jump of 21 feet, one inch. He fell short in both the 100 meter dash and the triple jump with second place finishes. Pruskowski took third as Harpo Hardt finished fifth in the triple jump. Dicks was so close in the 100 meter dash, being one millisecond off of Delhi's leader with a time of 11.42 seconds. Kevin Lang took fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.67. He also finished second in the 200 meters and fourth in the 400.
Christian Campbell finished 11th in the 2000 meter steeplechase with a time of 14:22.07 as Rowan Beasinger finished 16th in the 3200 meter run. Brock Porter and Easton Porter both ran the 800 meters, where Brock took seventh and Easton came in 15th. Easton took fifth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:52.34. Blake Tuttel finished 19th in the 3200 meter run.
Matt Wombacker and Kyle Patton both competed in the pole vault event. Wombacker finished sixth with a mark of 9-0 as Patton earned eighth place (8-0). Jaeden Walling ended up in a eight-way tie in the high jump with a jump of five feet, three inches for eighth place. Few
Elliott Briggs finished eighth in the shot put with a throw of 36 feet, eight inches as teammate Ryan Larsen finished 12th (34-0.75). Larsen took seventh in discus with a throw of 103 feet, eight inches with Briggs in 11th (94-9).
UV:
Girls:
The Unadilla Valley Storm girls' finished second to B-G with 72 team points. A team of Molly Gorrell, Madison Dix, Gracie Gorrell, and Kalie Fernandez-Naughton took the victory in the 4x400 with a time of 4:18.94. UV's 4x800 and 4x100 relays both came in second place.
Dix went on to finish third in the 400 meter dash, the same event in which Gracie won with a time of 1:01.49. Gracie came in second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.72 seconds. Jaiden Schrag came away with two first place finishes in her prominent hurdle events and finished eighth in the long jump with a jump of 14 feet, 11 inches. Kalie Fernandez-Naughton finished fifth in the long jump with a jump of 15 feet, eight inches. She also placed ninth in the triple jump (30-9.25) as Noelle Fernandez-Naughton finished 15th. Noelle also competed in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:19.69 for eighth place.
Molly Gorrell took 12th in the 800 meter run as Bella Potter finished 12th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 30.15 seconds. Natalya Schrag came in seventh for the 800 with a time of 2:41.62 and finished eighth in the 1500 meter run (5:55.94). Addison Marinelli finished 10th in the 1500 meter run with a time of 6:05.86.
Boys:
The UV Storm boys' finished seventh with 40 team points. Haywood Edwards achieved the Storm's lone first place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a top time of 1:00.01. Jacob Prentice picked up two second place finishes and one fourth place finish. He took second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 52.55 and marked a second place 11-0 in the pole vault. He ran the 200 meter dash in 24.04 seconds for fourth.
Ben Kemnah and Aidan James both ran in the 1600, where Kemnah finished 10th with a time of 5:01.84 as James came in 18th (5:39.05). Kemnah also ran the 800, where he finished 16th.
Tucker Cattanach took sixth in the triple jump with a jump of 37 feet, 11 and 3/4 inches and also finished 13th in the high jump in the 5-3 tie. Brodey Cattanach also competed in the triple jump with a jump of 32-0.75 for 15th place. Denzel Peter led the Storm in the long jump, where he finished fourth with a jump of 18-9.25.
Afton:
The Afton boys and girls have provided themselves this season individually, while merged with Harpursville. Allison Hauptmann was the lone Afton representative for the girls' team. She finished 22nd in the discus with a throw of 55 feet, nine inches.
Boys:
Thomas Joyce and Equan Patterson will make their way to the state qualifiers next week with strong finishes at sectionals and throughout the season. Joyce earned two third place finishes in both the 200 and 400 meter dashes and took 25th in the long jump. Patterson finished 12th in the long jump and his 2179 points in Pentathlon helped him advance to the state qualifiers meet, which only takes the top 24 athletes in all of Section IV.
Tyler Roberts also competed in the long jump, where he finished eighth with a jump of 17 feet, eight inches. Pierce Bushaw competed in the high jump in the tie with a jump of five feet, three inches. Dion Bushaw came away with a 21st finish in the shot put with a throw of 31 feet, two inches as Aaron Andres finished 26th in discus (71-1). Marcus Chavis ran the 400 meter dash in a time of 1:01.35 for 23rd place.
