OXFORD – There is magic afoot in a thriving small town farmers’ market where dozens of local farmers, bakers, beekeepers, tree tappers, soap makers and artisans gather to sell their products and the community comes out to meet them, shopping for the week ahead under the shade of grand old trees and basking in the sun while catching up with friends, new and old and listening to music. That’s what you’ll find on Opening Day, and every Saturday through September, at the Oxford Farmers’ Market this Saturday on Lafayette Park in Oxford, 9 a.m. - noon.
Over 35 vendors will be offering a wide variety of local plant starts and seeds for the garden; just-picked seasonal veggies and mushrooms; eggs of all kinds; dairy products and regional cheeses; locally raised and processed beef, lamb and pork; local hard ciders, maple syrup and honey; hand-made soaps, lotions and balms; homemade treats and toys for dogs; exquisitely hand-crafted items for the kitchen and home; and artisan fiber products from local producers. Every product is straight from a local source and the skilled hands of your neighbors.
This week, longtime Market favorite, composer George Anderson, opens the 2024 Bandstand season by filling the Park with his bluesy compositions, 10 a.m. - noon in the Bandstand, All events at the Market are free and open to the public.
