Oxford/Greene Track competes in Class C Championship
SIDNEY – The Oxford/Greene track and field team traveled to Sidney on Wednesday to compete in the Section IV, Class C Championship. The Sidney girls' won the sectional title with Oxford/Greene tied for ninth place with Newark Valley. For the boys', Lansing won the title as Oxford/Greene finished eighth.
Oxford/Greene continues to let their talent shine in the remaining scheduled meets.
Boys:
The Oxford/Greene boys' took eighth in sectionals with 34 team points. The 4x800 team, which consisted of Aidan Amin, Aiden Ives, Gordon Smith, and Eddie Golden, took fourth while the 4x100 and 4x400 teams both finished fifth.
Senior Aidan Amin achieved two new personal best times in his prominent 800 meter run and triple jump events. He took fifth in the 800 meter run with a new best time of 2:09.54 as he jumped a new best 35 feet, four inches for 13th place in the triple jump. Golden finished 18th in the 800 meter run, setting a new best time of 2:19.60. Isaac Utter also jumped in the triple jump, where he finished 16th with a new best jump of 34-4.25.
Gordon Smith added on to his two school records as he finished second in both the 1600 and 3200 meter run. In the 1600, Smith achieved a new best time of 4:34.90 while running the 3200 meters in a new best 10:10.71. Anthony Bourn took second in the 3000 meter steeplechase in a time of 11:43.08 as teammate Trent Hamilton set a new personal best time of 14:04.45 for 14th place.
Lazarus Ludolph and Keegan Waltz both competed in the 400 meter dash, where Ludolph finished 10th and Waltz finished 13th. Waltz also finished sixth in the long jump with a jump of 19-6.75. Eighth grader Sherman Ludolph completed the 400 meter hurdles in a new best 1:13.08 for 16th place as Braeden Goerlich finished eighth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.05 seconds. Jacob Eroshevich set a new personal best in the long jump as he jumped a new 16 feet, 11 and 3/4 inches for 16th place.
Urijah Dibble tied for 17th in the discus throw with a throw of 106 feet, eight inches and finished 21st in the shotput event to round out the boys' meet.
Girls:
The Oxford/Greene girls' finished tied for ninth place with 18 team points with help from Amani Amin, Lyla Biefeldt, Shanna Krupp, Justina Parsons, and Maddy Wise, who didn't make the finals for the 100 meter dash, but gave her best efforts in the prelims.
Biefeldt led the team with a victory in her prominent discus event with a throw of 106 feet, nine inches. She also finished third in the shot put event (31-7.25) Krupp finished 22nd in the shot put and 25th in discus.
Parsons achieved two new personal bests in the 2000 meter steeplechase and in the high jump. She finished fifth in the steeplechase with a new best time of 10:31.50 while jumping a new best four feet, four inches in a six-way tie for 15th place.
