The City of Norwich recognizes police officers

NORWICH — Last week, the Norwich Common Council recognized members of the City of Norwich Police Department for going above the call of duty.
The ceremony was to award four officers with letters of commendation, as well as citations of bravery and valor, regarding two incidents that occurred in the City of Norwich.
Norwich Police Department Chief Reuben Roach said the officers actions saved lives in the community.
“Both of these cases involved officers using extreme discretion, and their forward thinking, saved lives and helped to protect our community,” said Roach.
On April 24, officers Laughlin and King responded to a trespassing call that turned into an ambush and a suicide by cop ploy.
Upon arrival the officers were confronted by the resident with a 13-inch kitchen knife.
In that incident a man called police to report an intruder and then attack police with a knife when they arrived at the home. The suspect was taken into custody without injury. The officers were each awarded a citation of bravery and a pin of valor.
Officer Sgt. Martin was awarded a citation of commendation for his leadership during the incident.
On May 4, officers Waite and Dexheimer arrested a person driving a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was stolen during a robbery that occurred earlier in the day in the City of Cortland.
Both officers and Sgt. Rounds were awarded citations of commendation for their actions.
