NORWICH — James Hunter Six will be taking the stage at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, for the third performance of the NBT Bank Free Summer Concert Series season.
According to the Chenango Blues Association, James Hunter "delivers electrifying live performances with his authentic brand of rhythms and blues."
Hunter and his six-piece band has toured the world for decades; released six studio albums, with a seventh on the way; received a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album, as well as an Americana Music Award for Best New/Emerging Artist; and Hunter has shared the stage with musical legends such as Aretha Franklin, BB King, Etta James, and Van Morrison. In 2024, James Hunter Six will also be the special guest on 50 shows with Bonnie Raitt.
"Whether belting out up-tempo R&B or crafting candle-lit ballads, James Hunter is a must-see artist who effortlessly draws from the depths of his musical well, leaving audiences captivated and craving more," said the Chenango Blues Association.
The free Thursday concerts will also include local eats from Nina's Pizzeria, Gilligan's Island, Hubcap Munchie's, Joe's Food Shack, and more. Visitors can also enjoy food and bar service in Park Place's Beer Garden.
The concerts are held at 7 p.m. rain or shine, in Norwich's East Park. In the event of potentially dangerous weather, shows will be moved to another location. Any location changes will be posted on the Chenango Blues Association Facebook page and other social media feeds.
Upcoming shows in the NBT Bank Free Summer Concert Series are Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds on August 1; The Garcia Project on August 8; Blood Brothers and Los Blancos on August 15, beginning at 6:30 p.m.; the Sam Bush Band on August 22; and Keller Williams on August 29.
The 31st annual Chenango Blues Fest is on its way as well. This year's festival will be held on August 16 and 17 at the Chenango County Fairgrounds.
Helping Hands, a local nonprofit that provides free food, cleaning supplies, hygiene items, and pet food to area residents will be raffling off VIP tickets to this year's Chenango Blues Fest at the merchandise table to the left of the East Park Stage. Raffle tickets are $5 a piece, and funds will go to support Helping Hands giveaway nights.
The winner will be drawn at 8 p.m. at the summer concert held on August 15.
The free concerts are made possible by NBT Bank, the RC Smith Foundation, the Greater Norwich Foundation, and other generous foundations who sponsor the series.
"We’re very grateful to NBT Bank and our local foundation supporters for getting us the resources we need to get these people," said Chenango Blues Association President Eric Larsen. "With that, we have been able to assemble a really great group of artists from all over the country."
