PONY League Baseball: Norwich defeats S-E in final regular season game

NORWICH – After the game was suspended due to a tornado warning last Monday, the Norwich Purple Tornado and Sherburne-Earlville PONY league teams resumed the game on Tuesday night.
The score was tied at 2 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Norwich came out on top 10-4 to finish the regular season at 5-3.
Norwich got on the board early in the bottom of the first inning as a passed ball scored one and Pierce Sherman drove in a run on an RBI double to make it 2-0. S-E tied the game off two errors in the top of the third inning.
When the game resumed on Tuesday, Norwich broke the 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning with five runs scored. Two walks led off the inning before another walk came on two outs. With the bases loaded, Pierce Sherman drilled a two-run single to center field and Blayne Sutton followed with a two-run single to right field. Brooks Boland also drove in a run with an RBI single.
S-E got two back in the top of the fifth inning before Norwich added on. S-E had back-to-back one out singles by Collin Pattee and Tomek Jusianiec before a walk with two outs. Cooper Thorpe drove in both Pattee and Jusianiec with a long single to center field.
Norwich scored three final runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Brooks Boland scored on a wild pitch before the highlight of the night was a two-run home run to left field for Luke Waters.
Waters, Bray Lawrence, and Bo Brown all split time on the mound for Norwich. Bray Lawrence, who led the team with two stolen bases, started the game on July 15. He went two innings and a third, allowing two runs, one earned, on one hit, four walks, and had three strikeouts. Brown also pitched last Monday and only allowed a hit and struck out three batters through an inning and two-thirds. Luke Waters went the final three innings when the game resumed on Tuesday, where he allowed two earned runs on three hits, four walks, and struck out four batters.
S-E had Lucas Newman on the mound for three innings on July 15. He allowed two earned runs on two hits, five walks, and struck out six batters. Nolan Sigman took the mound in the resumed game on Tuesday, where he allowed five earned runs on three hits, and five walks through just two-thirds of an inning. Tomek Jusianiec, who led S-E with two stolen bases, finished the game in relief, allowing three earned runs on three hits through an inning and a third.
Norwich (5-3) advances to the Otsenango PONY League quarterfinals, where they play at Division ‘C’ Unatego on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. S-E finishes the summer season with a 3-5 record and may see some representatives in the PONY League All-Star game in Cooperstown on Wednesday, July 31.
