County receives $200,000 to offset daycare assistance expenses

NORWICH – More state aid is on its way to support child care assistance programming in Chenango County.


The Chenango County Board of Supervisors has approved an additional $200,000 in New York State aid to the county’s department of social services to assist locals with daycare expenses.


New York State child care assistance is allocated based on a formula that takes into account rollover funds of individual counties from the previous year, in addition to a 2022 state measure that expanded household eligibility for subsidies up from 200 percent to 300 percent of the federal poverty level.

The state’s new child care funding formula has increased the county’s expenditures for daycare assistance, according to Chenango County DSS Commissioner Daniel Auwarter. That added expense is reimbursed by the state.
