CATSKILL  – Greene’s football program stepped into unknown territory in its non-league opener Friday night at Catskill.

The Trojans were debuting a roster of relative inexperience against a football program they had never played.

Coupled with that, Trojans coach Dave Gorton had all of 11 plays of game film on his opponent.

“We prepared for a type of offense, and (Catskill) didn’t run that offense,” Gorton said.

Despite that miscalculation – and the nebulous territory it entered – Greene passed its first test of the 2024 season with flying colors blanking Section II’s Catskill, 48-0.

“We had a long bus ride, and some of the kids were nervous beforehand,” Gorton said. “I thought one of the things we needed to do was get off to a good start. That would make a big difference, and we got off to a good start.”

Indeed, the Trojans did start quickly.

The Trojans recovered a fumble on Catskill’s opening play of the game. From there, Greene marched 54 yards for the opening score.

Laz Ludolph scored on a TD rush, one of four TDs for Ludolph on the day.

Greene built a 28-0 lead at the break with three second-quarter touchdowns.

Ludolph scored his second TD on a short scoring run, then picked off a pass and returned it 38 yards for a score 35 seconds later.
