CORTLAND – After an exciting 30-0 shutout win over Port Byron last week, the Sherburne-Earlville Timberwolves football team suffered a 44-34 setback to the Cortland Purple Tigers on Thursday night. S-E fought back in the second half, outscoring the Tigers 27-22, but were limited to just seven points in the first half.

Cortland scored 22 points in the first quarter and held S-E to a touchdown in the second quarter, a six-yard rush for Nick Hull, to take a 22-7 lead at halftime.

Hull would be a playmaker for the Timberwolves again after the break as Hadden Price found him for the 50-yard reception to make it a nine-point game, 22-13. However, Cortland answered back with a score and a successful two-point conversion. Price pushed through with a four-yard run as S-E was down by 10, 30-20, going into the fourth quarter.

S-E added two more scores to the board in the final 12 minutes, but Cortland also drove in two touchdowns themselves. Hull scored his third touchdown of the night off a 23-yard pass from Price, but the extra point was no good. Garrett Winton then caught Price’s pass for a one-yard score and converted on the two-point conversion to conclude the scoring in the 44-34 final.

While Coach Steve Franklin continues to see a lot of heart and physicality from his team, the Timberwolves have to be consistent throughout the entire game.
