Norwich police department announces two new officers

NORWICH — The City of Norwich Police Department has welcomed two new officers, Torin Lawrence and John Vinal III, following their graduation from the Broome County Law Enforcement Academy on Oct. 25.

After completing a six-month police academy and six weeks of field training, Officers Lawrence and Vinal were officially recognized in a ceremony held at the Binghamton Arena.

“I’m proud of these young men. They have chosen an honorable career, and they are a welcomed addition to the ranks of the Norwich Police Department,” said Norwich Police Chief Reuben J. Roach.

Now active in their new roles, the officers will respond to calls, manage complaints, and engage with the community. With additional retirements expected in 2025, the Norwich Police Department encourages prospective officers to check the City of Norwich civil service website for upcoming recruitment information.
