Greene girls begin 2024 season with victory over Blue Ridge

NEW MILFORD – The defending girls basketball MAC champions are back. The Greene Trojans girls basketball team traveled to Pennsylvania to take on non-league opponent Blue Ridge for their first game of the season on Tuesday night. Greene came away with a 45-23 victory behind a strong team of key returning players ready to make another big run.

Greene showcased a dominant defensive performance, which was heavy on rebounding and helped them maintain a steady rhythm on offense. Dave Gorton’s team allowed just eight field goals in the game, with only two in the second half.

Abby Yahner led the team with a double-double, tallying 10 rebounds and 10 points. Claire Flanagan added seven rebounds and scored eight points. Cali Knapp and Josie Dutcher both scored eight points and had five steals each. Knapp also dished out five assists.
