S-E girls open 2024 season with win at Waterville

WATERVILLE – The Sherburne-Earlville Timberwolves girls basketball team enters the 2024 season as a much younger team this year after losing a handful of seniors last season. The team started strong with a 36-17 victory over Waterville on Saturday afternoon, showcasing a promising blend of returning players and new talent.

Both teams were slow at the start until S-E pounced with their best 13 points in the second quarter. The second half was steady as S-E held on to its lead with good defensive play.

Freshman Morgan Mikalunas led the Timberwolves with 15 points and also had three steals. Senior Claire Barth added 11 points as sophomores Cora Franklin and Maliyah Kopec had solid varsity debuts. Franklin chipped in four points and led the team with seven rebounds. Kopec finished with two points and six rebounds as Alyse Brown had five steals and Emma Webb contributed with three steals.
