Norwich girls come up short in thrilling matchup with Sidney

SIDNEY – The Norwich Purple Tornado girls basketball team opened its 2024 season with a competitive matchup at Sidney. Both teams battled back-and-forth, but Sidney came away with the 52-50 victory.

Sidney took a brief 20-17 halftime lead as Norwich’s Josey Ryan showed strength early on with 15 points.

Ryan only powered up in the second half, helping Norwich take a 38-32 lead at the end of the third quarter with 26 points. She was up to 33 points with 6:20 left in the contest, which is where she finished.

Sidney continued to fight back and secured the lead with under a minute left.

Josey Ryan led Norwich with 33 points, including five three-pointers. Brynley Ryan and Alivia Burrell added five points apiece as Emma Baker chipped in four points. Kerragan Reid knocked down a three to round out the team’s scoring.
