American Legion Auxiliary Unit 376 Marks Centennial with celebration

OXFORD - The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 376 will celebrate its 100th anniversary today, Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 3 to 5 p.m., marking the milestone since the unit’s charter in 1924. The event, held at the Oxford Legion, will feature hors d'oeuvres, punch, cake, and 1920s-era music.
Local dignitaries, including Mayor Terry Stark, Assemblyman Joseph G. Angelino (121st District), and State Senator Peter Oberacker (51st District), are set to participate. Mayor Stark will present a proclamation declaring the day as Centennial Celebration Day, and Assemblyman Angelino will deliver a citation honoring the unit's century of service. Oxford Historian Vicky House will also share her research on the original 12 charter members from 1924.
The event will highlight the unit’s history and achievements, with displays of vintage photographs and decorations. A reunion of former Poppy Princesses and past Unit 376 Presidents is also planned, with several confirmed to attend.
This celebration offers a unique look at the organization’s enduring legacy in the Oxford community. The public is welcome to join the festivities at the Oxford Legion to honor this historic milestone.
