NORWICH — The Guernsey Memorial Library, located at 3 Court Street in Norwich, will be hosting their first ever "Stuffed Animal Sleepover" for local youth.
Chenango County area children can drop off their favorite stuffed animal or toy at the library between 2 and 5 p.m. on Friday, January 24, where they will spend the night and get up to fun adventures.
Guernsey Memorial Library Children's Librarian Kim Hazen said kids will get the chance to decorate a picture frame, and then the librarians will take a picture of what their stuffed animal did during their overnight at the library for a keepsake.
"They can drop off their stuffed animal and we’re going to make a picture frame at that time. So any time that they drop in, I’ll be here. I’ll have all the supplies and we’ll make a little picture frame and basically it’s going to be for their picture that they’re going to get the next day," Hazen explained. "So then Saturday when they come they’ll get their stuffed animal back, of course, with a picture of what their stuffed animal did during the sleepover."
Pick up is on Saturday, January 25 at 10 a.m. Hazen said kids can pick up their stuffed animal, receive their keepsake photo to put in their picture frame, enjoy a light breakfast, and sit down for storytime.
"I haven’t decided what we’re going to have yet, but it’ll be something light, I think, but something good," said Hazen.
Guernsey Library also hosts a children's Story Hour each week from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Hazen said each week they pick a different theme.
The Winter Storytime Session lasts from January 7 to March 31. Upcoming themes include polar bears on January 7 and 9; "Reach for Peace" on January 14 and 16; snowflakes on January 21 and 23; the Lunar New Year on January 28 and 30; warm pajamas on February 4 and 6; hearts and flowers on February 11 and 13; dinosaurs on February 18 and 20; stars on February 25 and 27; "Dots, Spots, and Stripes" on March 4 and 6; superheroes on March 11 and 13; and jungles on March 18 and 20.
Kids can also enjoy a snowman sign craft workshop at 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 9 and Lego Club at 6 p.m. on Monday, January 13.
