BGA and Norwich indoor track teams compete at Twilight Invite

CORTLAND – On Wednesday, the Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton and the Norwich Purple Tornado indoor track teams competed at SUNY Cortland’s Twilight Invite.
Norwich competed in just two relays, where Ava Cirigliano, Layla Root, Bri Cirigliano, and McKenzie Hagenbuch broke the indoor school record. They finished second with a new record time of 4:48.99, beating out the old record time of 5:08.61 in the sprint medley relay.
The Norwich boys also finished second with a team of Gabe Decker, Nic Sutton, Cameron Carnachan, and Caden Sutton finishing in 3:52.25, behind Sidney’s 3:48.72.
The BGA Bears brought multiple female and male athletes to the meet. The girls’ sprint relay team finished seventh with a team of Kathleen Charette, Kaylee Biriki, Lilyana Carpenter, and Tabitha Charette. The boys’ sprint relay team finished sixth with Thomas Joyce, Anthony Graham, Jackari Garipoli, and Jaxson McGraw on the track.
BGA:
Girls:
Breegan George led the girls with two top 10 finishes. She finished fifth in the 55 meter hurdles with a new best time of 10.95 seconds and came in eighth in the long jump with a new best jump of 12 feet, five inches. Kendall Wygant finished 12th in the long jump with a her best 8-6 as Kaylee Biriki came in fifth in the triple jump (27-7.50). Wygrant also competed in the 55 meter dash with Railey O’Dell. O’Dell finished 17th with a new best time of 9.64 as Wygrant followed with her own best 9.86 seconds for 18th place.
Kathleen Charette earned a 10th place finish in the 400 meter dash with a new personal best time of 1:27.58. Teammate Jessica Addorisio came in 14th with a new best time of 2:03.79.
Tabitha Charette finished 11th in the 800 meter run, setting a new personal best time of 3:29.96. Lilyana Carpenter came in 19th in the 200 meter dash with a new best 38.49 seconds.
Madison Peck and Hailey Maye both competed in the shot put event, where Peck finished 11th with a new best throw of 17 feet, nine and a quarter inches. Maye earned a 13th place finish with a throw of 17-2.25.
Boys:
Matthew Wombacker led the BGA boys with a top finish in the pole vault with a mark of eight feet, six inches. Aside from Wombacker’s impressive performance, a total of nine Bears came away with top 10 finishes or better.
Anthony Graham earned two top five finishes, including a fourth place finish in the long jump with a new best jump of 16 feet, two and a quarter inches. He also took fifth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 11.53 seconds. Jackari Garipoli finished ninth in the long jump with a jump of 14-10.50.
Thomas Joyce achieved a fifth place finish in the 400 meter dash with a new best time of 57.52 seconds as Jaxson McGraw finished 12th with his own best time of 1:05.44. McGraw also earned a new best time of 7.57 seconds in the 55 meter dash, where he finished ninth.
Blake Tuttel also came away with a ninth place finish in the 1600 meter run, achieving a new best time of 6:03.42. Connor Rowe finished 10th in the 800 meter run with a new best time of 2:50.98 with teammate Christian Campbell in 14th with his own personal best 2:57.68.
Enoche Ross and Eric Biriki both competed in the shot put event, where Ross picked up a 10th place finish with a throw of 29-10.75. Biriki followed with a 11th place finish with a new best throw of 26 feet, nine and a half inches. Biriki also competed in the 200 meter dash, earning a new best time of 28.53 seconds for 15th place.
