CHENANGO COUNTY ― Diane DiStefano, an experienced attorney and former Guilford Town Justice, was sworn in as Chenango County’s new Family Court Judge on Saturday at the Chenango County Courthouse.
The position was recently established through legislation aimed at reducing case backlogs in New York State courts.
DiStefano, a Republican with nearly three decades of legal experience, has handled an extensive range of family court cases, including child abuse, domestic violence, custody, and divorce. She also served in the county attorney’s office and public defender’s office, earning a strong local reputation.
As the only candidate with prior judicial experience―having served as Guilford Town Justice in the 1990s―her campaign garnered endorsements from key local legislators, including Assemblyman Joe Angelino.
