Norwich indoor track competes at Friday’s Utica Challenge
UTICA – The Norwich Purple Tornado indoor track teams competed in Friday’s session of the Utica Challenge held at Utica University. The team continues to celebrate milestones this season with Gabe Decker and now the boys’ 4x400 team hitting the state standard as well as athletes breaking school records. Ava Cirigliano broke the 400 meter record, previously held by alum Sydney Chaffee. Ava ran a new best 1:04.32 for second place, behind Sidney’s 58.83.
The Norwich girls took 11th at the invite while the boys came in sixth place.

Girls:
The Norwich girls’ relay teams came away with a sixth place and a 10th place finish. A team of Annie Boland, Kyra Brunick-Davis, McKenzie Hagenbuch, and Emilia Pepe finished sixth in the 4x800 as Ava Cirigliano, Bri Cirigliano, Hagenbuch, and Tristan Monroe led the 4x200 to a 10th place finish.
Aside from her record-breaking performance, Ava came in 10th in the 300 meter dash with a time of 45.54 seconds as Bri came in 21st with a new best 52.54 seconds. Tristan Monroe finished 13th in the 400 meter dash with a new best time of 1:11.39.
Boland earned a fifth place finish in the 800 meter run with a personal best time of 2:53.46 as Laci Zieno came in 17th with a new best 3:44.02.
Kyra Brunick-Davis finished ninth in the 1000 meter run, setting a new personal best 3:43.11 with Malea Sutton in 11th with her new best 3:51.97. Sutton also ran the 1500 in a new best 6:09.94 for 13th place.
McKenzie Hagenbuch picked up a seventh place finish in the 600 meter run with a new best time of 1:53.94 as Emilia Pepe achieved a new best 2:03.52 in 12th place.
Reagan Decker earned a fifth place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 29 feet, 10 inches and came in 11th in the long jump with a new jump of 14-8.
Lara Tefft and Eva Blenis both competed in the shot put event, where Tefft came in third place with a throw of 31 feet, six and a half inches. Blenis finished 21st with a throw of 21-11.50. Tefft also came in fifth place in the weight throw with a throw of 36-6.50.
Boys:
Gabe Decker, Cameron Carnachan, Nic Sutton, and Caden Sutton helped the Norwich boys’ 4x400 relay team meet the state standard with a time of 3:41.28 for second place, behind Columbia’s 3:32.94. Decker went on to win his prominent 400 meter dash, running the fastest time of 52.27 seconds, which is a new best.
Caden Sutton finished third in the 1000 meter run, where he set a new best time of 2:43.18. Pat Mulwane finished 24th with his own personal best time of 3:28.25. Orren Doolittle finished 24th in the 600 meter run, where he achieved a new best 1:52.90 as Cameron Carnachan came in 17th in the 55 meter dash. Nic Sutton finished sixth in the 1600 meter run with a new best time of 4:57.60.
Connor Marshall led Norwich in three events with his best finish in the 55 meter hurdles, where he came in fourth place with a new best time of 9.09 seconds. He took ninth in the high jump with a new best jump of five feet, six inches. He finished 22nd in the long jump with a new best 14-10.25.
Kaden Downey earned second in the weight throw with a new best throw of 54-11.50, behind Peru’s 56-8.
Liam White came in 23rd with a throw of 32 feet as Quintin Berg finished 20th in the shot put with a new personal best throw of 33-2.25.
