BGA and UV indoor track competes at Utica Challenge’s Saturday session

UTICA – The Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton and the Unadilla Valley indoor track teams competed in the Utica Challenge at Utica University in the Saturday session. The BGA girls took sixth with 42 points as the UV girls finished 14th. The BGA boys came in fifth place and UV tied for 13th.

BGA:
Girls:
The Bears girls’ relay teams finished third and fifth with a team of Makayla McCloud, Appalonia Bushaw, Brenna George, and Elanor Sprow with the third place finish in the 4x200. Madi Beardslee, Isabel Suda, Brooklinn Hall, and Elanor Sprow took fifth in the 4x400 relay.
McCloud ran to a second place finish in the 55 meter dash with time of 7.66 seconds, behind Shaker’s 7.47. Brenna George finished 16th with a time of 8.21 seconds.
Maddie Ingham came in fourth place in the 400 meter dash with a new best time of 1:04.64 with Appalonia Bushaw in 10th place with her own personal best 1:09.11.
Kayla Patton and Laila Williams both achieved a 10th place finish in their respective events. Patton finished 10th in the 300 meter dash with Isabel Suda behind her in 11th. Williams earned a 10th place finish in the 600 meter run as Madi Beardslee came in 22nd.
Macey LaFever had solid performances in both the 800 and 1000 meter run. She picked up an 11th place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 3:06 and ran the 1000 meters in 3:57.36 for 16th. Vanessa Brazee came in 12th in the 3000 meter run with a time of 13:30.13.
Emily Sprow picked up an eighth place finish in the 55 meter hurdles before moving into the fielding events. Breegan George came in 12th in the 55 meter hurdles with a new best 10.84 seconds.
Emily Sprow finished fifth in the high jump with a jump of four feet, eight inches with Kayla Patton in ninth (4-0). Sprow also jumped in the long jump event, where she finished with a jump of 14-8.25 for 14th place.
Brooklinn Hall came in 19th in the long jump (13-5.25) and led the girls in the triple jump with a 10th place finish (29-4.25). Elanor Sprow finished 11th with a jump of 29 feet, four inches.
Marissa Mayo led the team with a second place finish in the shot put with a throw of 29 feet, one inch, behind West Canada Valley’s 31-7.50. Tori Suda finished fourth with a throw of 28-3.50 and finished eighth in the weight throw with a throw of 26 feet, five inches. Emilie Hopkins came in 13th in the weight throw with a throw of 21-3.50.
Boys:
Before excelling in individual events, the BGA boys came away with two top five or better finishes in the team relay events. A team of Connor Davy, Declyn Marshfield, Thomas Joyce, and Harpo Hardt ran the 4x200, where they came in fourth place. Ethan Beardslee, Ashton Adams, Ryan Larsen, and Owen Degan finished fifth in the 4x400.
Connor Davy led the BGA boys with a top finish in the 55 meter dash with the fastest time of 6.73 seconds. Anthony Graham finished 18th with a time of 7.32 seconds and came in 12th in the 300 meter dash.
Ethan Beardslee finished 13th in the 400 meter dash with a new personal best time of 1:01.51. Beardslee also took eighth in the high jump with a jump of five feet, two inches.
Ryan Larsen picked up a top finish in the shot put event with a new best throw of 38 feet, one inch and finished 16th in the weight throw (27-8.50). Tim Kinter finished 17th in the shot put (26-9.50).
Aiden Quick competed in both the 800 meter and 1000 meter run. He earned a ninth place finish in the 1000 meters, where he achieved a new personal best time of 3:03.51. He ran to a 10th place finish in the 800 meter run with another new best time of 2:24.78. Owen Degan followed in 11th with a new personal best time of 2:27.79. Degan also finished sixth in the 3200 meter run with a new best 10:45.01 as Ashton Adams competed in the 55 meter hurdles, where he took sixth with a time of 9.05 seconds.
Harpo Hardt finished second in the triple jump with a jump of 39 feet, five and 3/4 inches, behind Canastota’s 40-0. Declyn Marshfield came in fifth place with a new best jump of 38-4.25 and took third in the long jump with a new best 19 feet. Nolan Foster finished seventh in the long jump (18-0.25).
UV:
Girls:
The UV girls competed in just one team relay, where a team of Margaret Kemnah, Madison Dix, Molly Gorrell, and Natalya Schrag picked up one point with an eighth place finish in the 4x800.
Molly Gorrell went on to finish second in the 600 meter run with a new best time of 1:45.33, behind Shaker’s 1:40.76. Addison Marinelli finished 11th with a time of 1:59.58.
Natalya Schrag picked up a seventh place finish in the 800 meter run with a new best time of 2:36.46 as Madison Dix achieved a new best time of 3:26.97 for 14th place. Schrag also finished ninth in the 1000 meter run as Margaret Kemnah took 13th in both the 1000 meters and in the 1500 meters as well.
Shyla Roberts competed in three events, including her top finish in the 55 meter hurdles, where she finished 14th with a time of 11.10 seconds. She also finished 18th in the long jump with a new best jump of 13 feet, five and a half inches and finished 20th in the 55 meter dash with a new best time of 8.65 seconds.
Piper Hine came in 22nd in the long jump with a jump of 10 feet, six inches and finished 19th in the 300 meter dash with a new best time of 56.54 seconds. She also came in 25th in the 55 meter dash with a personal best 9.17 seconds.
Noelle Fernandez-Naughton picked up a 15th place finish in the 400 meter dash with a new best time of 1:11.87.
Alivia Plows and Gabby Barnes both competed in the throwing events. Plows earned an 18th place finish in the shot put with a throw of 18 feet and an inch. She achieved a new best throw of 15 feet, four inches in the weight throw for 19th place. Barnes came in 19th in the shot put (17-5) and finished 21st in the weight throw with a new best throw of 13-3.50.
Boys:
The UV boys were led by Jacob Prentice, Dominic Berthel, and Jake Favinger.
Prentice came in second in the 800 meter run with a new best time of 2:11.21, behind Shaker’s 2:10.08. He took fourth in the 400 meter dash with a new best time of 53.56 seconds with Berthel in 16th with a new best 1:04.11. They both competed together in the 55 meter dash where Prentice finished 13th and Berthel picked up a new best time of 7.73 seconds for 22nd.
Favinger earned two 12th place finishes in both the 800 meter run and in the 1000 meters. He ran the 800 meters in a new best 2:28.21 and finished the 1000 meters in a new best 3:13.26.
