NORWICH — In preparation for opening day, Aunt Mary’s House (AMH), is offering opportunities for volunteer work to complete final tasks for their non-profit organization located in Chenango County.
AMH President Jen Westervelt said they hope to receive help from the community including high school students looking to add to their community volunteer hours.
“Our Work Day hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, January 18,” said Westervelt. “We would love to have as much help as possible to get AMH ready.”
Westervelt said their last workday was a huge success and most of the hard work has been completed.
She said during the family-friendly work day, volunteers will assemble bassinets, closets and bedside tables along with hang curtains, make beds and sort through donated items, labeling for storage.
Executive Director Brenda White said they are so thankful for the support received from the community, businesses, foundations and neighbors.
“We would not be able to accomplish the goals we have for Aunt Mary’s House without their support,” White said. “We look forward to continued partnerships with our community to make our program a success and change lives of every woman and baby we work with.”
Aunt Mary’s House offers the opportunity for mothers and their babies to live in a stable, judgment-free environment, for up to two years.
Pregnant and parenting mothers will have access to pre-natal healthcare, consistent childcare, support services, educational and vocational resources, counseling and other services. They will also receive support and training to help them develop life skills, parenting skills, career goals and financial literacy.
White noted this support and these services will help mothers build a strong future, transition into permanent housing, and gain lasting independence in the community.
