NORWICH — The Chenango Arts Council will be hosting "Get Cary-ed Away," double-feature movie event, at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12 in the Martin W. Kappel Theater, located at 27 West Main Street in Norwich.
The event will feature two Cary Grant movies, starting with "His Girl Friday" followed by "Charade."
"His Girl Friday" is a fast-paced comedy from 1940 starring Cary Grant and Rosilind Russell, which follows a newspaper editor desperately trying to win back his reporter ex-wife by enticing her with an interview with a death-row convict.
The second movie, "Charade," is a 1963 mystery film starring Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, and Walter Matthau. This twisting tale in Paris, France involves a mysterious murder, a stolen fortune, and a swarm of goons vying for the pilfered riches.
Both movies are free to attend, although the Arts Council will be accepting free-will donations from those who would like to give.
The movies are suitable for all ages, and Chenango Arts Council Administrative Assistant said beverages, light snacks, and popcorn will be provided. There will also be a brief intermission between the two films.
"We’re going to have a brief little break to give people a chance to stretch their legs and things. It’s going to be probably like a 15-minute break between the end of ‘His Girl Friday’ and the start of ‘Charade,'" she explained. "You can come for one or both of the movies. There’s going to be some light refreshments, and it’s free to attend, and they are pretty suitable for all audiences."
The Chenango Arts Council offers a free Halloween movie series each October in partnership with Guernsey Memorial Library, and for the past few years, they have been offering movies in February as well.
Miller said this year they decided to try something a little different with the single-day, double-feature event.
"In the past few years we have done some February movies, and this year we’re going to try making it one event just because with winter weather, it kind of peters out toward the end," she said. "So we figured maybe just have one big, fun event, and that could be the February movie for this year."
