S-E boys fall to unbeaten Cooperstown

SHERBURNE – Following the girls game, the Sherburne-Earlville Timberwolves boys basketball team hosted an unbeaten Cooperstown team in a non-league matchup. S-E fought hard in a 69-43 deficit against the Hawkeyes.
There were several ties in the first quarter with both teams starting off strong defensively. S-E was swarmed with Hawkeyes, but were able to find Brayden O’Hara inside. Garret Winton had room to drive in as well for the Timberwolves. O’Hara and Winton both had five points in the first half.
Cooperstown was settling in with a big 20-point lead before fouls got the best of them. S-E got within 14 points at the break, making four free-throws and baskets by Mike Behret, Isaac Porchea, and O’Hara.
S-E got within 14 points again in the third quarter, but the Hawkeyes rebuilt a big 21-point lead to enter the fourth quarter.
Both teams made full substitutions in the final four minutes of the contest. Issac Stackhouse, Robert Schafer, Blaine Fleming, Hadden Price, and Austin Clark entered the game. Stackhouse made a single free-throw as Fleming passed the ball to Schafer for two.
The Timberwolves were led by Brayden O’Hara, continuing his success inside the paint, with 13 points as Nick Hull came away with 11 points. Hull currently averages 15.8 points per game.
Parker Goedel hit two threes for six points as Garret Winton added five points. Isaac Porchea drove the ball quickly across center court throughout the game and contributed with three points. Mike Behret and Robert Schafer both had two points as Isaac Stackhouse added a free-throw.
S-E (5-8) heads to Herkimer on Thursday, where they look to split the two-game series and look to overcome a 70-39 deficit from January 15.
