BG girls get by Oxford
BAINBRIDGE – On Friday, the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats girls basketball team hosted Oxford for a local matchup. B-G came away with a 47-25 victory.
The two teams had met for an additional matchup in December, where the Bobcats won that game by a score of 42-37. Only one of the wins counted for league record with all the MAC teams scheduled to play each other once.
B-G, who came out strong in the first half and had a strong finish against Walton/Downsville in their previous game, also had an impressive start against the Blackhawks. However, they slowed down in the second and fourth quarters but their defense worked hard, holding Oxford to single-digits throughout the contest.
Marissa Mayo led the Bobcats with 14 points with two threes and settled in with 10 points in the third quarter. She, along with Tori Suda, both finished with six defensive rebounds.
Jayslin Henderson posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and added four steals. She also finished three-for-four at the free-throw line. Emma Kinter finished with eight points with the team’s six points in the fourth quarter.
Suda finished with seven points with five of the seven being free-throws. Peyton Umbra had five points and a team-high eight assists.
Oxford was led by Paige Rickard with seven points, all in the second half. Aubrey Rickard followed with six points as Margaret Rovente was held to four points.
Taegan Manwarren and Emmalee Reiss both chipped in three points with Manwarren making three free-throws and Reiss adding a three in the fourth quarter. Abby Denz had a basket in the first quarter to finish with two points.
BG improves to 4-2 in the MAC, tied for second in the league with Delhi, and have an overall record of 9-4 on the season. The Bobcats continue their home stand on Tuesday, when they host Unatego at 7:15 p.m.
