Norwich winter track at NY International Showcase

STATEN ISLAND – Over the weekend, the Norwich Purple Tornado winter track team traveled to Staten Island’s Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, home of the indoor state championships, to compete in the New York International Showcase. Norwich competed against many different teams across the nation including NY, PA, NJ, OH, DE, NC, MD, VA, NH, and against teams from Florida, Georgia, and even Canada as well.

Girls:
The Norwich girls 4x200 relay team of Ava Cirigliano, Bri Cirigliano, Tristan Monroe, and Layla Root came in 25th place in the Varsity division with a time of 2:03.80 while McKenzie Hagenbuch led the girls individually with a ninth place finish in the 800 meter run.
Hagenbuch competed in the Freshman division of the 800 meter run as an eighth grader, where she achieved a new best time of 2:36.73. Fellow eighth grader Malea Sutton finished 22nd with her new best of 3:13.03.
Senior Annie Boland finished 46th out of 57 in the girls Varsity division with a time of 2:56.72.
Ava Cirigliano, Monroe, and Bri Cirigliano all competed in the 400 meter dash event. Monroe and Bri were in the freshman division, where Monroe finished 24th with a time of 1:17.12. Bri finished 33rd with a new best time of 1:23.18. Ava finished 33rd in the Varsity division with a time of 1:05.19.
Boys:
The 4x200 team consisting of Gabe Decker, Tiernan Lindsay, Nic Sutton, and Caden Sutton finished 34th of 38 qualified boys varsity teams with a time of 1:39.93. Caden and Gabe then went on to lead the Norwich boys individually amongst tough competition.
Caden Sutton finished 13th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:02.55 as Nic Sutton came in 61st out of 104 male runners in the event with a new best time of 2:11.23.
Decker competed in both the 300 and 400 meter dashes. He earned a 15th place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 52.50 seconds and came in 30th in the 300 meters with a time of 38.22.
Connor Marshall was the lone competitor in both the long and triple jumps. He finished 21st in the triple jump with a jump of 35 feet, one and a half inches, which is a new personal best. He came in 37th in the long jump with a jump of 15-11.75.
