Norwich wrestlers honor seniors vs Forks

NORWICH – The Norwich Purple Tornado wrestling team hosted Chenango Forks for senior night on Thursday. Congratulations to Briley Beckwith, Cyrus Graham, Jack Barnes, and Evan Heath.

Forks won the overall match 48-21.

Prior to the match, Norwich recognized three local members, who will be elected into the Section IV Wrestling Hall of Fame this year at a ceremony in March. Congratulations to Oxford middle school principal and current wrestling official Greg Lehr, who will be representing Chenango Valley as his time as a coach. Norwich High School principal Jacob Roe is entering the Hall of Fame as an athlete from his time at Whitney Point and Norwich ’15 alum and wrestler Tristan Rifanburg will be honored as well. Separate articles will be written on these three local members prior to the ceremony.

Cyrus Graham, Ryan Evans, and two Forks wrestlers earned wins by forfeit, leaving the rest of the match to be decided on the mat.

Maverick Beckwith continued to shine on the mat as he piled up the points to earn a win by technical fall, leading 18-2. Kolby Vielandi won by major decision against Grant MacRabie 14-2 as the only wins for Norwich on the night.

Briley Beckwith, Jadyn Carpenter, Evan Heath, Bryce Wellington, Teagyn Demuth, Blayne Sutton, and Jack Barnes fought hard in their respective matches, but could not come away with the victory. Barnes came close to earning the points he needed to come away with the win, but the third period ended with Barnes falling 1-0.
