Oxford boys hang on to defeat Edmeston

EDMESTON – After an exciting finish in Oxford in the middle of January, the Blackhawks boys basketball team and Edmeston met up again on Tuesday. Oxford swept the two-game set with a close 41-39 victory on the road.

Oxford played a great first half and led for most of the game but almost let the lead slip away from them late. Edmeston went to the free throw line 21 times, making 12 successful attempts with six in the fourth quarter and outscored Oxford 16-12 in those final eight minutes but Oxford held on.

Donovan Rickard led the Blackhawks with 11 points as Ben Sheridan had nine points, including six points in the fourth quarter.

Gordon Smith finished with eight points with five points in the first quarter and made three free throws in the second half. Sam Hendricks added five points while Jared Sheridan chipped in four and Richard Hunter and Kyle Benjamin finished with two points each.
