BAINBRIDGE – The Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats girls’ basketball team hosted local opponent Oxford in the first round of the round robin playoffs, which features the middle teams of the MAC standings, including Walton/Downsville.

It wasn’t easy but B-G came away with the 39-31 win as both teams prepare to face Walton/Downsville next.

The teams battled to a tie at the end of the first quarter and then Oxford took a brief one-point 17-16 lead at halftime with both teams playing physical on defense with several jump balls.

Oxford also helped pressure B-G with pressuring them as the shot clock winded down. However, the Bobcats had a few good opportunities off the inbound pass.

Oxford’s Abby Denz made it a four-point game with a three with five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter while Aubrey Rickard hit a crucial three to make it a one-point game with under two minutes. However, B-G’s Marissa Mayo answered back with a big three herself and the game was sealed at the free throw line.
