Two people in North Norwich face number of animal cruelty charges

NORTH NORWICH – The New York State Police have charged two people as part of an ongoing animal cruelty investigation in North Norwich, where more than 50 animals have been removed from a property amid reports of neglect.
According to the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, two individuals were arrested in connection to the case, Fiona R. Taylor, 24, of Norwich, and Lauren M. McKendry, 47, of Norwich.
On January 22, police executed a search warrant at a Mudge King Road property seizing 30 horses, a pig, seven sheep, four goats, four chickens, seven dogs, and three cats that were in need of immediate care. The animals were transported to rescue organizations throughout the area. Additionally, investigators reported finding more than 12 dead animals on the property, including horses, goats, pigs, and chickens.
NY State Police arrested Taylor on February 14 and McKendry on February 18.
Both defendants face 16 felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and 65 misdemeanor counts of overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals; and failure to provide proper sustenance, under New York Agriculture and Markets Laws. They were issued appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear in North Norwich Town Court on February 26.
Authorities credited multiple agencies for assisting in the case, including the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, Chenango County Office of Emergency Management, the Susquehanna SPCA, Chenango County SPCA, the National Humane Society, and numerous animal care professionals and advocates. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
