Grand jury indictments include high school sex crimes, fentanyl inside county jail, and other felony offenses

CHENANGO COUNTY — A Chenango County grand jury has returned multiple indictments against several individuals, bringing felony charges related to sex crimes, violent offenses, drug possession, financial fraud, and property theft. The cases involve multiple towns and villages, including Norwich, Sherburne, Greene, Guilford, and North Norwich.
William R. Ramirez was indicted on first-degree sexual abuse (class D felony), third-degree aggravated sexual abuse (class D felony), and forcible touching (class A misdemeanor). Prosecutors allege that on October 23, 2024, at Sherburne-Earlville High School in the Village of Sherburne, Ramirez forcibly touched and sexually assaulted a victim while holding them in the school's pool.
Scott M. Wortmann was indicted on nine counts of third-degree promoting a sexual performance by a child (class D felony). The indictment states that on September 2, 2024, he allegedly sent multiple explicit videos and images of a minor under 17 via text message from a residence on Pleasant Street in Norwich.
Michael D. Collins was indicted on two counts of second-degree attempted assault (class E felony) and third-degree criminal mischief (class E felony). Authorities say that on September 26, 2024, on Jackson Hill Road in Greene, Collins swung a baseball bat at two individuals and smashed the windows of a Jeep Wrangler, causing damages exceeding $250.
