Norwich YMCA Dolphins compete at CNY YMCA District Championships

FULTON – The Norwich YMCA Dolphins competed at the Central New York YMCA District Championship, hosted by the Fulton YMCA, on February 1 and 2. Top times and exciting swims highlighted the meet for the Dolphins with multiple top 12 finishes across all age groups. In total, just over 70 seconds worth of time was dropped amongst the swimmers which marked all swimmers earning a best time in at least one or more of their events.
The 9-10 Girls age group, whom went undefeated during the regular dual meet season, earned second overall and saw District Championship swims including the 200 yard Medley and 200 Yard Freestyle relay each consisting of Nora Diefenbacher, Kate Hull, Reigan Aikins, and Kennedy Foulds. Additionally, Nora Diefenbacher placed first in the 50 Free and 50 Breast along with second in the 50 Back. Kate Hull brought home second in her 200 free and 100 IM along with fifth overall in her 50 Fly. Reigan Aikins earned third in the 200 free, sixth in the 100 IM, and fourth in the 50 fly. Kennedy Foulds came in 14th in the 100 free, 11th in the 50 free, and seventh in the 50 breast. Milena Beltz came in 20th in the 50 free, 19th in the 100 free, and 22nd in the 50 back and Adeline Vazquez came in 17th in the 50 free, 21st in the 100 free, and 16th in the 50 back.
Junior swimmers Laura Coye, Gideon Mathews, Lawton Ferris, Teddy Williams, Emma Harmyk, and Kevin Walsh all achieved top 12 finishes in their events as well.
For the seniors, Maggie Williams, Alice Boland, Kaelyn Conant, Madison McKissick, Maria Funk, Tim Guzewich, Kris Deuel, and Aiden Diefenbacher also achieved top 12 finishes and best times in their events.
The coaches are very proud of their teams’ performances. The sheer amount of best times that occurred at this meet were awesome. Some really great races, from relays to individual swims, resulted from the drive and determination our swimmers were showcasing. Many goals were achieved or finally realized and marked a great end to the season for many of the swimmers.
Next is the NY State Championship meet at the Webster Aquatics Center, where 12 Dolphins will be competing in 28 different events.
