Oxford girls drop to Moravia in opening round of sectionals

MORAVIA – The Oxford Blackhawks girls’ basketball team put together a solid regular season, finishing with an even record and securing the 14th seed in the Section IV, Class C tournament. Oxford faced a tough first-round matchup against the defending Class C state champions, Moravia on Wednesday night. Oxford fell 50-32 to the Blue Devils, ending the 2024-25 season with a 10-11 record.
Both teams were evenly matched in the first half with Moravia taking a one-point lead at halftime 17-16.
The Blue Devils stepped up their tempo in the second half, while Oxford battled to stay in the game but couldn't come up with key defensive stops.
Paige Rickard led Oxford with 11 points, where she went five-for-six at the free throw line. Aubrey Rickard and Margaret Rovente both added eight points. Seniors Taegan Manwarren and Emily Holbert chipped in two points in the first half. Olivia Oliver added one free throw to round out the scoring.
