Oxford softball holds SVEC to win season opener

OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawks softball team started the 2025 season on a high note in a competitive battle against non-league opponent Spencer Van Etten/Candor on Monday afternoon. Oxford earned the 10-7 victory at home.

Spencer Van-Etten took an early 2-0 lead off a solo shot home run to center field and a two-out RBI single. However, the Blackhawks came back to answer with three runs in the bottom of the first with two outs.

Abby Stone drew a walk, Lily Marshman hit an infield single before Peyton Cummings walked to load the bases before Reagan Long and Emmalee Reiss had back-to-back hits. Long drove in one run while Reiss drove in a pair to make it 3-2 Oxford.

Oxford extended their lead in the bottom of the second to make it 5-2 as Colette Kappauf doubled to put two runners in scoring position for Abby Stone, who brought home both Kappauf and Raya Warner, who had walked, on a double.
