SHERBURNE — The Chenango Bird Club welcomes all to its first official meeting at 6:30 p.m., April 9, in the Interpretive Center at Rogers Environmental Education Center, located at 2715 NY-80 in Sherburne.
“Everyone is welcome,” said Chenango Bird Club Communications Chair Dan Pfeifer. “We look forward to another enjoyable year.”
“To start the evening, a short business meeting will take place followed by a main feature presentation by John Pumilio; “On the Brink, A Firsthand Account of Efforts to Save the Florida Panther”,” said Pfeifer.
“Pumilio is one of Colgate's Associate Provost for Sustainability and will share his personal experiences of working on the Florida Panther Recovery Project in South Florida,” he said.
Pfeifer said Pumilio will also disclose how a small team of biologists, conservationists, and trackers employed extraordinary, and at times risky measures to save the iconic species which was on the borderline of extinction.
“This presentation offers a unique look at an endangered species recovery effort that remains a powerful case study in wildlife conservation,” said Pfeifer.
In addition to the regular monthly meetings held from April through December each year, the club holds many other outings to provide numerous bird watching opportunities and participates in projects including the Audubon Christmas Bird Count.
