Local track athletes kick off season at Windsor’s NY/PA invitational

WINDSOR – Local Chenango County track teams traveled to Windsor on Saturday for the NY/PA invitational, where for some teams, it was the first official meet of the season. Full results can be found on ny.milesplit.com.

Corning won for the girls while Bainbridge-Guilford took sixth, Norwich in 16th and UV tied for 17th with Sus Valley. Niskayuna took first for the boys as B-G came in eighth and UV tied for 11th with Delhi.

The B-G girls’ started off strong in the relays with a fourth place finish in the 4x100 meters with a team of Keelan Ammon, Makayla McCloud, Kayla Patton, and Elanor Sprow ran a time of 58.94 seconds. Maddie Ingham, Laila Williams, Vanessa Brazee, and Lalaenia Baldwin led the 4x800 relay to a seventh place finish with a time of 12:03.89.

Ingham led the B-G girls’ team individually with a third place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:34.49. Baldwin finished 13th with a time of 2:55.70 and also took fourth in the 2000 meter steeplechase with a time of 8:51.43. Brazee finished the steeplechase in 9:52.13 for sixth place.

Brazee also competed in the 400 meter hurdles with Laila Williams. Williams finished fourth with a new best time of 1:21.95 as Brazee came in ninth with a time of 1:40.41. Williams also sprinted the 200 meter dash in 31.13 seconds for 16th place.
