OXFORD – On a windy Monday afternoon, the Oxford Blackhawks softball team hosted neighboring Greene for a MAC league matchup. Greene came away with the 10-2 victory, their first win of the season after hard losses to Charlotte Valley and Unatego.
Greene got on the board first as Audra Doll singled with one out, stole second and third before coming in to score on an error.
It would remain 1-0 but both teams fought to get runners on, coming up short with tremendous defensive plays, including line drive catches by both teams and a caught stealing.
In the fourth inning, Greene scored on a bases loaded walk before extending the lead to 3-0 in the fifth on a deep ball over the fence in center field for a solo shot by Abby Yahner.
The Trojans added four more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Rachel Anderson reached on an infield single, advanced to second on a passed ball before Ahraya Whitt hit into a groundout, moving Anderson to third. Audra Doll drove in Anderson on a single to right field. Doll stole second and third again before scoring on Abby Yahner’s second extra base hit of the day with a double to left.
Deidre Colgan drove in Yahner on a single to center before Colgan advanced to second on a groundout, stole third, and scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-0.
