Oxford softball back on track with tight win against UV/GMU

OXFORD – On a cold Wednesday night, the Oxford Blackhawks softball team hosted MAC league opponent Unadilla Valley/GMU. After hard losses to B-G and Greene, the Lady Blackhawks got back on track with a 15-5 victory over the Storm to go even at 2-2. The Storm dropped their fourth straight game.

Both teams struck first with UV taking the early 2-0 lead as Madison Anderson led the game off with a single to left and Arianna Allen followed suit with a hard ball to left, putting Anderson in scoring position. Gabby llararza had a hard hit ball to the infield that drove in Anderson before stealing second. Allen scored on an RBI single by Natalie Crandall before Oxford’s Lily Marshman got out of a jam with two strikeouts.

Oxford answered back in the bottom half of the first, where they tied, added on, and took a 4-2 lead.

Abby Stone was hit by the pitch to start the inning, stole second, and scored on a line drive single by Reagan Long. Long stole second and advanced to third on an error and scored the tying run on a double by Jenna Denz. Denz and Long both drove in a team-high two runs on the day.

Denz scored on a steal of home as the go-ahead run and then Peyton Cummings, who drew a walk, came in on a dropped third strike.
