Norwich schools lockdown after men seen carrying pellet guns on nearby city street

NORWICH - Three men carrying what appeared to be assault-style weapons prompted a temporary lockdown of area schools Monday after police received a report of individuals walking with long guns on Pleasant Street, according to the Norwich City Police Department.

Police contacted nearby schools and requested they initiate lockdown procedures out of an abundance of caution. Officers from the Norwich City Police Department, Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Police responded and saturated the area.

Authorities located the three adult males, who were identified and found to be in possession of pellet guns, not firearms. Police confirmed that there was no danger to the public or surrounding schools. No arrests were reported.
