NPD: High risk sex offender charged with giving false address to police

NORWICH - On April 24, the Norwich Police Department arrested Level III Sex Offender, Brennon Bennet, for failure to register his address in compliance with his conditions of New York State Parole as well as the New York State Sex Offender Registry.

Bennett, 31 of the City of Norwich was charged with failure to register as sex offender, an E Class felony and held on a parole violation warrant.

According to New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services a level 3 Sex Offender is at high risk of repeat offense and a potential threat to public safety.

It is alleged that Bennett used a fraudulent address with the Norwich Police Department, where he is required to check in on a regular basis.

The NPD confirmed Bennett was convicted of first degree attempted rape in 2017 and was released from the Department of Corrections to New York State Parole in December of 2024.

NPD Chief Reuben J. Roach said detectives and New York State Parole collaborated closely to apprehend this Bennett.

Bennett taken to Central Arraignment Court and held on no bail due to prior felony convictions.
