Motorcycle rider killed in crash involving Oxford school bus

OXFORD - On Tuesday, April 29, at approximately 3:35 p.m., New York State Police at Norwich responded to the intersection of County Road 35/State Route 220 and County Road 32 in the town of Oxford for a report of a collision between a school bus and a motorcycle.

State Police have released the name of the motorcycle operator as 61-year-old Michael Crandall from Oxford, NY. Mr. Crandall succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the crash. The operator of a Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling westbound; the school bus from the Oxford Academy and Central School District was traveling northbound when they collided.

The school bus had eight children on board, ages 10 to 14. A 12-year-old child was evaluated at Chenango Memorial Hospital, no other children reported injuries. The operator of the school bus, a 58-year-old male of Sherburne, NY and an aide who is a 54-year-old female of Greene, NY were both evaluated on scene.

Members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
