Butternut Valley Grange news and updates

GILBERTSVILLE - The Butternut Valley Grange, Gilbertsville, will convene for its next meeting on Monday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Grange Hall, 7 Bloom Street. The Family Activities Committee will conduct the chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting contest during the meeting. All entries in the contest should be at the Grange Hlall by 7:15 p.m. Any questions about the contest should be directed to Sandra Stoy, Chairperson, at 287-0937. Recent winners from Butternut Valley at the county level of Family Activities judging include: Quilted Wall Hanging—Paula Evans; Baby Size Quilt—Lynne Porter; Stuffed Toy--Anna Ritchey; Recycled Calendar—Anna Ritchey.

A window display was arranged by Anna Ritchey and Helen Ritchey that was enjoyed in the Gilbert Block during April, Grange Month. Anna Ritchey reported that $100 scholarships were sent to GMU, Morris, Unadilla Valley and Unatego schools to be given to a graduating senior in each school district. A Heidelberg bread fund raiser concluded at the April 14 meeting with net profit of over $500 for operational expenses and community endeavors.

The local Grange is scheduled to participate in the annual Eat Your Way Thru the Alphabet at Unadilla Valley School, Vicky Gregory will report on the upcoming plans. Roberta Halbert will report on plans for the Grange to assist Wilson’s Barbecue in Unadilla on Mother’s Day, May 11

The Grange will be preparing and serving the meal in Sidney on May 22. This is part of the Share the Bounty project which is open to the public. The Grange is planning continuation of painting the exterior of the historic building, a multi-year project with the Executive Committee deciding on the contractor. A report of the Executive Committee’s decision and of the recent roast pork dinner will be shared at the May 12 meeting.

Members are reminded to bring loose change to the May meeting for Aunt Mary’s House in Norwich, a community service project. Norm and Anne Ritchey will greet early arrivals at Monday’s meeting.
