Harpursville/Afton baseball wins close game vs Greene
GREENE – The Harpursville/Afton Crimson Hornets and the Greene Trojans baseball teams squared off for a MAC consolation game at Greene on Wednesday. The Crimson Hornets, down 5-4 after six innings, scored two runs in the seventh and held the Trojans to win 6-5.
Harpursville/Afton took an early 2-0 lead on an RBI single by Matt Carman and scored on a balk. Greene answered back with a run of their own as Jackson Roth, who led-off the inning with a single to left, advanced to second on a balk, and to third on a fielder’s choice before scoring on a groundout by Trent Drew.
Both teams scored a run in the third and Harpursville/Afton extended their lead to 4-2 in the fifth inning. However, Greene went ahead with a three-run sixth inning, brought on by three walks and a run coming in on a wild pitch, another walk on two outs and a wild pitch bringing in two more runs.
The Crimson Hornets’ Matt Carman tripled with one out in the top of the seventh and scored on an error to tie the game at 5. Jacob Rueffer, who reached and advanced to second on the error, and advanced to third on a groundout. He came in to score the game-winning run on a RBI single by Davin Warren.
