Chenango Bird Club hosting a bird walk at Quarry Brook Farms

SHERBURNE — The Chenango Bird Club welcomes all to the June bird club meeting and walk at 6 p.m., June 11, in the Rogers Environmental Center front parking lot.

After a brief meeting, bird club members and guests can carpool to 407 Granville Hill Road, in Sherburne, for a walk on the trails of the certified organic farm, Quarry Brook Farms. The group will get a chance to see nesting Bobolinks and parking will be available next to the barn.

The Chenango Bird Club Communications Chair, Dan Pfeifer said the owner of the farm, Adam Perrin and his family, incorporate Regenerative Farming practices allowing ecosystems to heal while enhancing soil health and increasing biodiversity.

Pfeifer said their beef cattle and sheep are 100% grass and hay fed and Perrin will give a brief explanation on how this farming system works, and how the birds have benefitted.

“One of the happy consequences of this practice is the return of Bobolinks, which are nesting in these rolling fields right now,” said Pfeifer.
